Vegan Brownies

These have been the best I've come up with, so far. They come out very fluffy, almost a bit too cake-like for some. A reduction of the baking soda would likely fix this, if one were to decide it needed to be fixed.

Pre-heat oven to 350 F.

1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup Dutch cocoa
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
6 tbspn apple sauce (sugarless)
2 tbspn ground flax seed mixed with 5 tbspn water
1 tbspn ground golden flax seed mixed with 2.5 tbspn water
1.5 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbspn oil (Usually canola. Walnut oil is interesting)
3/4 cup walnuts (Optional, but recommended)

Mix all the dry ingredients, and then begin adding the various wet ingredients. Make sure you mix the flax seed and water separately, and then add it to the mix. Walnuts should be added last.

Bake for roughly 28 minutes, but keep a close eye on it the first time you try baking as all ovens have their own ideas about what their temperature actually is.

For those with wheat alergies, I believe that you could substitute the flour with rice flour. In fact, this might make them slightly chewier. But I have not yet tried it.

For those wanting less sugar, I've played around with increasing the applesauce and decreasing the sugar content with mixed results. Certainly edible, but you might wish to add a few drops of stevia to sweeten it up a little, should you try this.
